Bathroom and kitchen remodeling in Johnstown, between Loveland and Greeley
Johnstown was platted in 1902 and incorporated in 1907, named for Harvey J. Parish's son John. It sits west of where the Big and Little Thompson rivers meet, between Loveland and Greeley. The town grew from 9,887 people in 2010 to 17,303 in 2020, so many of its homes are recent, and much of the bathroom and kitchen work here is upgrading the finishes the builder installed.

Johnstown permits and the 3.5 percent use tax
The Town's list of work that needs a building permit includes plumbing work, electrical work, adding or removing walls or doors, converting or finishing a basement or garage space, and a new or replacement water heater, which covers most bathroom and kitchen remodels beyond new finishes. Applications are made on the Town's eTRAKiT online building site. SAFEbuilt inspects: requests go to 970-305-3161, ext. 1, by 4 pm for the next business day, and the Town's main line is 970-587-4664. Check with the Town about your scope before you apply.
The use tax at common materials budgets

| $10,000 of materials | $350 |
| $20,000 of materials | $700 |
| $30,000 of materials | $1,050 |
Calculated at 3.5 percent from the Town of Johnstown's building permit guidance. Labor isn't materials; ask the Town how it values the materials on your permit.
What Johnstown remodels cost
No Johnstown-only remodel series is published, so the regional and national figures apply: $24,920 for a midrange bathroom remodel and $28,490 for a minor midrange kitchen remodel in the Mountain region (Cost vs Value 2025), and $3,750 to $19,500 for semi-custom cabinets in a typical kitchen (Fixr, 2026). Unlike Fort Collins, where the City's permit fee climbs with the job's value (see the Fort Collins permit guide), Johnstown's notable extra is the tax on materials.
